AUCHI POLYTECHNIC INAUGURATES NEW STUDENTS’ UNION (SU)
The Rector of Auchi Polytechnic, Dr. Salisu Shehu Umar, has formally inaugurated the newly elected Students’ Union (SU), marking the successful conclusion of the institution’s electronic voting (E-Voting) process and the commencement of a new era of student representation anchored on transparency, accountability and responsible leadership.Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony, the Rector congratulated the newly elected officers and described their emergence through the electronic voting system as another milestone in the Polytechnic’s commitment to credible, transparent and technology-driven democratic processes.
Dr. Umar particularly commended the Dean of the School of Information and Communication Technology (SICT), Mr. Bayo Adedeji, who also served as Chairman of the Auchi Polytechnic Elections Committee (APECO), for his exemplary leadership and dedication in coordinating a seamless, free and transparent election. He equally appreciated members of APECO, the Dean of Students’ Affairs Division, management staff, ICT personnel, security agencies and all stakeholders whose collective efforts ensured the success of the electoral exercise.
The Rector reminded the newly inaugurated student leaders that leadership is both a privilege and a responsibility. He urged them to remain focused on academic excellence while serving the interests of the student community with integrity, humility and transparency.
He charged the students’ union executives to maintain cordial working relationships with the Polytechnic Management, respect constituted authority, promote unity among students, and always embrace dialogue in resolving issues affecting the student body.
Dr. Umar also reiterated the institution’s unwavering zero-tolerance policy on cultism and other social vices, emphasizing that there is no benefit in criminality, violence, examination malpractice, drug abuse, cybercrime, sexual harassment or any conduct capable of tarnishing the image of the Polytechnic. He encouraged the student leaders to champion campaigns that promote responsible living, discipline and positive values throughout the campus community.
The Rector further advised the students to remain studious, law-abiding and committed to the ideals of peace, noting that a conducive academic environment can only be sustained through mutual respect, constructive engagement and adherence to institutional regulations.
The newly inaugurated Students’ Union will be led by Mr. Francis A. Ismail, a student of the Department of Public Administration, who assumes office as President alongside other elected executive members.
In his remarks, the Dean of Students’ Affairs Division, Mr. Ohimai Anthony, congratulated both the Management and the newly elected executives on the successful conduct of the electronic election, describing the process as free, fair, transparent and devoid of rancour. He encouraged the new leadership to justify the confidence reposed in them by providing purposeful and selfless service throughout their tenure.
The ceremony attracted principal officers of the institution, management staff, Deans of Schools, Heads of Departments, the Director of Public Relations Division, staff members and students, all of whom applauded the successful deployment of electronic voting as a credible mechanism for strengthening democratic governance within the Polytechnic.
The inauguration reinforces Auchi Polytechnic’s commitment to innovation, good governance, peaceful coexistence and the continuous development of student leadership founded on excellence, accountability and service.
